SUGAR MUNCH DESSERTS

Yesterday, we bought Mocha Torte from Sugar Munch Desserts at Marfori Heights.  It is the first time I tried their cake and I must admit it is really very good.  The cake is creamy and it just melts in your mouth.  You should try one yourself to experience what I am talking about.  The store attendant was also kind enough to let me take photos of their mouth-watering delicacies.

UP Mindanao

Photos shown above are taken at UP Mindanao, Mintal, Tugbok District, Davao City.  The first photo was the famous oblation statue and the rest are paintings that can be found inside the building.

DAVAO DENCIA'S RESTAURANT

Davao Dencia's Restaurant used to be a small goto / lugaw house along Ilustre (I'm not sure if it is Ilustre.  But it is around that area.)  They have unconventional wooden tables that looks amazing.  My favorite is their lugaw partnered with tokwa't baboy.  Now, the restaurant is already a  two storey modern building but they still keep their distinctive tables.  They can already accommodate functions like wedding, birthday, christening, and many more.  Everytime I'm in Davao, I always try to order their lugaw and tokwa't baboy.  My new favorite is their fresh lumpia.  Yummy!
When you're in Davao, don't forget to try their famous lugaw.  They are part of Davao' s history.

SMALLEST GOAT

I went to Kadayawan Trade Fair in SM carpark to check out the display.  Then I visited the animal section and noticed this goat.  I asked the attendant if this is really the smallest goat.  He said that it is only a joke.  You can check it out if you want.  They will be at SM til August 31.  Anyways, I bought 5 raffle tickets at  P 30 each to join their raffle.  They will draw 3 winners this August 24 and the price to be given away is, guess what, a goat!  How exciting!  Just kidding. They also gave me a reading material about goat raising from Department of Agriculture.  Free of charge.

NAME THE BOAT

We went to SM about a few weeks ago when something caught my attention at the ongoing Trade Fair in their Entertainment Center.   There was this boat made out of plastic bottles and nets.  There is a pen and paper on top of it that encourages passersby to name the boat and the chosen entry will win a white water rafting adventure.  So, can you name the boat?

Here's mine:

SAGBOAT (I can't think of anything else!)

MIDNIGHT SALE

Everytime there is something to celebrate like Kadayawan this week, malls in Davao City always have MIDNIGHT SALE on weekends.  This means that peole can shop until 12 midnight.  Victoria Plaza, Gaisano Mall and SM will have their midnight sale this August 23.  I wish I can go to these places because I need to buy a gift for my son's birthday.  But sometimes it is better to buy things on regular days because the lines are usually long during these sale events.

Other events wherein they usually have midnight sale:  Christmas, New Year, Halloween, Araw ng Dabaw, Summer, Back to School, and Valentine's Day.

SOUTH SPOT

There is a new tv show in Davao called SOUTH SPOT on Skycable Channel 13. I love the show because it features everything about Mindanao. I also find it amusing to see friends and familiar faces on the show. It's a very good move to start making our own presentation of what Mindanao has to offer. They feature local culture, lifestyle, music scene, and many others. Keep it up guys!

SEAWALL

QUEENSLAND MOTEL

We went strolling the other day and we decided to check out the seawall at Matina.  The place really improved.  The first time I visited the place it was just a plain seawall.  But now, it has the controversial statue of David, a shallow pool that houses hammer head sharks, tables, chairs, street lights, and a fence that houses ostrich.  Pretty impressive.  To think this is at the back of the famous QUEENSLAND MOTEL.

AIRSOFT TOURNAMENT

There will be an Airsoft Tournament on August 23 - 24, 2008 starting at 8:00 am on Davao River Park.  16 teams from different cities will participate in the said event.  Please come and watch.

TAKOYAKI

We went to Victoria Plaza to buy some slippers and seebot.  Then my son asked me to buy him some food and pointed takoyaki near Park N Shop.  One order consists of 4 pieces for the price of P 27.00.  We ate it at home.  It doesn't taste that good anymore.  It's full of flour and cabbage.  Unlike the first takoyaki booth at VP food court wherein it has a lot of other ingredients that really tastes great.

BANOK'S

We ordered lechon manok at Banok's Buhangin for P 159.00 a piece.  It includes atsara and sawsawan.  The chicken tastes great but it was not properly chopped.  I heard their chicken barbeque tastes great, too.  I guess I will try it next time.

PENONG'S

I've never eaten inside Penong's near the People's Park.  We always order take out.  We usually buy pork barbeque, liver, and gizard.  That is why I always wonder why the place is always jampacked.  Was it because of their unlimited rice offer?  The price?  Or the taste?  People are lining up outside to wait for any available tables.  The waiter is even taking an advance order of the waiting customers.  With regards to their barbeque, it tasted okay.  I like their liver because it's not overcooked.

MR. DURIAN

This unfinished statue always catch my attention everytime I travel to Davao.  You can find this huge stracture after Seagull Valley if you are from Bukidnon.  It's a "katutubo" man holding a durian on his lap while seated on a squat crossed leg position.  It's already been 6 months since I first saw this statue but it is still unfinished.  Once done, I will post here the finish photograph.  I'm not sure if this is a project of Davao City.  It doesn't have any notice or signs near it.

KADAYAWAN 2008

Davao City is celebrating Kadayawan Festival every month of August.  I will be coming to Davao anytime this week and I'm expecting to see a lot of trade fairs, carnivals and events for the said celebration.  This is going to be fun!
